Russell Pratt (at the Mason & Hamlin keyboard) and Ransom Sherman looking
over his shoulder in one of the WMAQ La Salle Hotel studios around 1929. The pair
filled countless hours of air time on the early WMAQ. Sherman in particular had
a long association with the station that lasted well into WMAQ's NBC days (when
he took to the network beginning in 1938, teamed up with a young Gary Moore on
"Club Matinee"). Sherman, known for his low-key, dry humor, had a short-lived
but memorable television show that served as a summer replacement for "Kukla,
Fran and Ollie" in 1950 (if I remember correctly). |
