Freeman Gosden and Charles Correll, radio's "Amos
'n' Andy", in 1929 during the height of their popularity on WMAQ radio.
One of the eternally problematic issues in the history of broadcasting is how
two white guys portraying Black guys was received within the African American
community. The curator hopes this
photo will add to the debate. ("Amos 'n' Andy" made their first appearance
on WMAQ on March 19th, 1928). |
