Weller was WMAQ's first engineer, which means he was there from day one (which
was April 12th, 1922). The only equipment I can identify in the above photograph
(apart from the Burgess "B" batteries hooked up in series) is the Western
Electric model 8-A audio amplifier mounted in the rack to Weller's right. Note
how the tubes are mounted on the face of the panel so they can easily be yanked
and replaced in case of failure. |
