The 1934 WLS Family Album:

The Ridge Runners

Curator's note: John Lair is perhaps best known as the guiding force behind the Renfro Valley Barn Dance which he established after his years at WLS. Based in Rockcastle County, Kentucky, the broadcast aired over WLW (Cincinnati), WHAS (Louisville) and the CBS radio network. John Lair's papers have been archived at Berea College.

You could pick these mountaineers out of a crowd most anywhere, not only by the far-away mountaineer look in their eyes, but most easily by the leather boots and hickory shirts they wear. From left to right they are: Slim Miller, John Lair, Karl Davis, Linda Parker, Red Foley, Hartford Taylor.
