Ding Dong School Artifacts

From the Collection of Frances Horwich ("Miss Frances")

Curator's note: The items linked on this page belonged to Frances Horwich and were in her Scottsdale, AZ home at the time of her death in 2001. They were offered at auction in July of 2003. I have no idea how many of the items were sold or to whom (though there is perhaps a secondary market for some of these items). Fans of "Miss Frances" will find them of some interest, as will those interested the influence of television on the popular culture of the 1950's and 1960's.

"Ding Dong School" bells. Miss Frances had quite a collection. Here are some of the more interesting examples.

A "Peanuts" cartoon strip with a "Ding Dong School" reference. Charles Schulz, creator of "Peanuts" was a "Ding Dong School" fan.

"Ding Dong School" books. One of the ways in which the program was merchandised.

"Ding Dong School" recordings. Another way in which the program was merchandised.

Photographs of Frances Horwich ("Miss Frances").

"Ding Dong School" films.

The "Ding Dong School" George Foster Peabody Award. A number of Frances Horwich's award were among the items placed on the auction block in the summer of 2003.

More "Ding Dong School" Awards. "Miss Frances" was honored by many, including the "Saturday Review", "Motion Picture Daily" and "Woman's Home Companion".

A "Ding Dong School" chair, custom-made for "Miss Frances".
