Curator's note: This piece by Rich Samuels originally aired on WTTW's "Chicago Tonight" program in October, 2006 as part of the "Chicago Stories" series. It documents the missile installations on Chicago's lakefront on Chicago Park District property and in the Skokie Lagoons on property of the Cook County Forest Preserve District, as well as the attempted takeover of the sites by Native Amicans once the military abandoned them. Featured in the video are Chuck Sandlin, Mark Berhow and Arthur Pancoe. There is also a cameo appearance by future Illinois governor Jim Thompson. |
