Mary Hartline on "Super Circus"

Curator's note: This 1954 "Super Circus" video clip begins with the opening of the show's second half-hour, sponsored by the Mars Candy Company. "Cliffy the Clown" is played by Cliff Soubier, a former vaudevillian who worked in Chicago radio since the early days. You will see Mary Hartline "conducting" the Super circus band (the director was actually Bruce Chase). Also included is the show close in which Mary ingest a Snickers candy bar. Note that, in the closing credits, the stagehand has placed the title cards out of order, throwing the booth announcer for a momentary loop.
