The
Best of "Garroway at Large": Part IV
June
10th, 1951: Johnny Hodges
|
Johnny
Hodges (1906-1970) had left the Duke Ellington band (with
whom he'd played since 1928) to form his own small group not
long before this performance. Hodges, of course, was one of
the greatest alto saxophone artists of the twentieth century. |
In
this performance an oscilliscope---tracking audio of Hodge's
performance---is superimposed over video of Hodges playing.
This is an example (the "Boom
Ballet" is another) of how Garroway and his crew
integrated broadcast technnology into broadcast performances. |
