WMAQ-TV Color Film Processors

Color film processor

Above: The WMAQ-TV color film processor.

The station's color film processor, a Filmline ME-4, was installed in the fall of 1966. The 16 millimeter Etachrome process enabled the station to air news film virtually 100 percent in color henceforth eliminating late newsfilm that of necessity was in black and white before the installation of the color processor. A second unit was added in the summer of 1969 as the news operation continued its growth. The quick processing equipment in conjunction with newly installed Magna-Tech highspeed audio transfer equipment enables the station to air late newsfilm within 25 minutes of receipt of the raw film at the station.
